Blog Assingment 2

For this assignment I chose to design a project that utilises a network of participants. My idea was to send round a blank piece of paper via e-mail to create a piece of art work. The first person that received the email would get a blank piece of paper and draw what they wanted on the paper, scan it and attach it to an email and send it to one of the people on their email contact list and also send a copy back  to me so i could see that progress of the art work. Then the second person to get the email would print off the first persons drawing and add to the art work. The reason why I chose to do this is because I think it’s a fun way to interact with people on the internet instead of just commenting on people’s profiles and pictures on facebook. The idea behind this concept is to bring out peoples creative side using email. The reason why I used email is because in the last year or so it has been phased out by large social networking sites like myspace, bebo and facebook so people are using these sites more and email less.

This is the email that I sent

i have only included the first part of the email address.

Museum

I took this photo because it relates to the sea which is the main environment for pirates. Fish would also be a source of food for pirates.

I found this painting in a art collection area of the museum. I chose it because the man in the painting looks as though he could be a pirate. This is because of the clothes he is wearing and he has also been painted in a fighting stance as pirates were notorious for starting fights on land.    DSCF1528

I’m using this image because cannons were a large part of a pirates success in battle specially if it was from a distance because if any opposition pirates got close enough to your ship they could board the others ship and they would have to engage in hand to hand fighting.

This is a image of the clothing worn by the captain of a ship. I’m using this image because it symbolises the enemies of the pirates as the pirates use to take over and steal  from the ship that were commanded by such captains.DSCF1550

Interview

I was unable to conduct an interview due to certain people not e-mailing me back. But i found this interview on youtube which is hilarious. The reason why I chose this particular video is because to me personally this man is the definition of a modern day pirate.

These are images and objects that I found in my local fish and chip and took photos of them because it relates to my theme of pirates. This certain shop was like a gallery for my subject matter.

 Pirates Gospel By Alela Diane

Richard Becker

Richard Becker (in conjunction with other authors) created a two series of books called “Blood thirsty pirate’s” and “Pirate Tales”, which he also illustrated. In these books there are information, stories and historical facts about pirates. Richard Becker was also the author and illustrator of his own graphic novel called “Black Beard the Pirate”. These are some of his illustrations.

Pirate’s of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: cures of the Black pearl as the central theme of this movie is about Pirates. In this movie Captain Jack Sparrow is on a mission to get his ship back “the Black Pearl” after he was marooned on an island by his own crew. This movie showed pirate behaviour, greed , attitude and to never take a mans ship.

The Boat That Rocked

The Boat That Rocked is a movie about a pirate radio station off the coast of England in the 1960’s. The reason I chose to use this movie was not only because they were called pirate radio stations but also the way they were treated by the government. Just like the pirates of old they were constantly badgered by governing bodies about their life style and how they made a living. At the end of the movie a law was passed to shut down the pirate radio station just like in the Elizabethan ear when piracy was outlawed.

Hook

Hook is a movie about a pirate called Captain Hook. Hook is a follow on from the movie Peter Pan and it tells the story of how Hook want to capture Peter Pan. the reason why i chose this movie is because it shows how Hollywood glamorises pirates for childerns movies.

Pencil Drawing

I like this drawing because it’s done in pencil so it has a greyscale which gives it an aged look. I also like the shading on the sails of the ship because it gives them dimension and depth.
